- Unfit or possibly inexperienced
- Net win
- Net Win or Profit from a winning bet equals the return less the amount you originally staked (remember, you always get your stake back if your bet wins).
- Neves
- The 'tic-tac' / Slang term for 7/1.
- Newspaper Line
- the betting line which quite often appears in the daily newspapers. The lines are only approximate and quiet often totally inaccurate and misleading.
- No action
- A wager in sports betting in which no money is lost nor won.
- No offers
- When bookmakers are unwilling to offer a price on a horse N/O is chalked up on their board.

- Head
- Non-trier
- A horse which (illegally) has failed/not been encouraged to give everything during a race
- Nose
- Win (nose in front)
- Novice
- A horse (hurdler or chaser) who has not won a race before 1st May of the current season
- Number cloth
- Cloth placed under the saddle showing horses racing number
- Numbers board
- Metal frame/scoreboard ca. 6m high bearing race information (out of date)
