Steve Jones

September is often a difficult month for winner-seeking. There are, of course a number of classy contests, but much of the racing is characterised by large fields as juveniles look to make a mark and moderate handicappers seek to earn their winter keep. In light of this, it's worth siding with the professionals, who are more than capable of deciphering the complex codes that make up the last couple of months of the Flat season.

Surging to the top of the besttipping table for results over the last five weeks is Steve Jones' Daily Bargain. Eight of Steve's tips were winners, notably the Ayr Gold Cup victor, Kaldoun Kingdom, advised at 16/1. Earlier in the month, Steve had also highlighted the chances of 10/1 Kempton handicap winner, The Scorching Wind, the second of three successive winning advices that week. The service also picked out Sarah Park, a 9/2 winner at Goodwood, and Frankie Dettori's 9/1 Ascot scorer, Glowing Praise. The end result was a huge 30.7 point profit on the month. As well as the eight winners, its worth noting that a further six recommendations finished second.

September has also proved to be an extremely profitable month for Alex Gorrie. Ayr Gold Cup Day (19 September) proved a particularly triumphant occasion for the service. As well as selecting the Richard Fahey-trained Kaldoun Kingdom for the big sprint, Harrison George (8/1) had also been advised. The profit on the day amounted to 17 points. Three days earlier, Gorrie's four selections yielded three winners, while on the 17th all three of Gorrie's selections came up trumps.

September has also been a profitable month for Personal Info - the twentieth in the last twenty three months. The level of consistency has been typically high throughout the period under review (50% strike-rate) but the service has been on fire in the last eleven days, during which time six out of seven tips have prevailed. This equates to a staggering 86% strike-rate.

Also in the black this month are Gamblers Reunited, who continue to find a steady stream of winners. Recent examples include Luisant (11/2) and Jaconet (8/1).

The ex-champion jockey Richard Dunwoody may not be the world's greatest dancer, but his tipping service continues to dazzle. Latest successes include 8/1 Willies Way and 5/1 Rosewin. As with Personal Info, the last couple of weeks have been particularly profitable with six out of eleven advises proving correct.

Finally this month, a word about the two soccer services, Soccertips - Scottish and Soccertips - English. Both have enjoyed fines spells of form, particularly the Scottish service which boasts an 80% strike-rate for the period under review. This run included four successive winning advices. The English service has also been in fine fettle racking up a four-win sequence of its own, and an overall strike-rate of 60%. Both services are showing healthy profits for the new season.

Great Graphs and Functionality Sign up for free to Besttipping.

Besttipping receive selections from all the tipsters well before the start time of the event. These selections (the same ones they are sending out to their regular subscribers) are later settled against the day's results and entered into the Besttipping database. The result is that we are able to display a complete and accurate (and above all, independently verifiable!) record of how each service is performing over a period of time.

Many tipsters claim impressive track records and in some cases, these results are undoubtedly true. Claims though, are very easy to make and without proper policing and easily understandable analysis it is difficult for the potential customer to subscribe with any real confidence. Besttipping is the only 'Professional' service and is unique in that it offers for free the chance for you to:

  • View results graphically
  • View results by level flat stake (£10, £50 or £100 you decide)
  • View results by points (if the tipster uses this system)
  • View total win value and percentage of winners
  • View results over different periods e.g. 30 days, 90 days, year to date
  • Monitors laying as well as backing services

The importance of long-term subscriptions.

Looking back over the performances of our tipsters since we started collecting data in October 2005, what strikes me most is the incredible consistency shown by the top performers. Not only are the same names who were at the top of our tables in December still at the top, but the amount of profit shown to their clients has increased steadily.

This is not to say though that they will never have negative weeks or even months. In fact they ALL have, and will no doubt have more in the future. The important thing to appreciate when deciding to subscribe to a service is that it has to be a long term investment to be worthwhile. It is true that you may subscribe for a month and be lucky enough to show a huge return, but the consistent and reliable returns are shown over time.

Besttipping is there to identify how tipsters have performed in the past so that you can gauge how they might perform in the future. Having chosen the service you feel offers the best long term value, make a long term commitment and decide on a stake amount which does not overstretch you during the losing periods, while at the same time makes the subscription fee worthwhile.

Best of Luck!!
