First Favourite Make It Eight From Eight!

2015-08-29

As regular followers of this site will be aware, even the best tipsters can sometimes have an off month. But, as the goal of informed betting is long-term profit, occasional set-backs are to be expected. These can often be put down to extraneous circumstance such as changes in weather patterns, or particular stables being out of form. And as you would expect from our team of professionals, wrongs are quickly righted. But certain tipsters seem able to overcome these vagaries, producing a profit month in month out. The best current example of this is First Favourite, who registered yet another profitable month in August, making it eight from eight so far this year. During the period under review (26 July – 29 August), First Favourite recorded 13 winners from 22 bets (59% strike-rate), a haul that included 2/1, 11/8 and 7/4 successes.

Last year Isiris and James Boyle Racing both registered nine profitable months out of twelve, a figure that Those2oppose also achieved in 2013. With four full months to go this year, there is, clearly, a good chance that First Favourite will smash this record.

Also on the scent of that particular record is Personal Info, whose 2015 record reads seven profitable months out of eight, thanks to another period of solid profit. After a mid-month reconnaissance mission to Ireland, Personal Info returned in fine fettle with a trio of handsomely priced victors: Ajaya (9/2, York, 22 August), Cassells Rock (9/2, Down Royal, 28 August) and Maarek (5/1, Beverley, 29 August).

After several near-misses, Betadvisor’s John Sills hit the top for the first time in August, winning the monthly title with a 35.1 point yield. Sills remains in second place in the 2015 challenge behind runaway leader Isiris’ Mark Your Card, but he has reduced the deficit by more than 60 points. Ten of Sills last 19 selections were winners, suggesting that if anyone can topple the mighty Mark Your Card, it could well be Betadvisor’s man.

Steve Jones’ Daily Bargain and James Boyle Racing fought a spirited battle for second, with Jones prevailing by a 1.5 point margin. The highlight for Daily Bargain was the success of 16/1 advice Outer Space at Kempton on 18 August. Other winners included two at 9/1, one at 7/1 and one at 9/2.

For Boyle, August was all about York’s Ebor Meeting. Nine horses were advised during the course of the four-day get-together on the Knavesmire, and four prevailed, an assault spearheaded by 12/1 advice Libran and also featuring winners at 9/1, 7/1 and 5/1. Although narrowly missing out on second spot in August, Boyle still sits in third place in the 2015 table, with Daily Bargain fourth and Personal Info in fifth position.

Personal Info’s Saturday service also enjoyed a profitable August with three winners (5/1, 9/2 and 15/8) and a 14/1 each-way place from just seven selections. This means that since the start of July 2014, this service has seen a return on 44 out of 71 selections, which equates to an impressive 62% return strike-rate.

Also enjoying profitable Augusts were Middleton Racing and Those2Oppose. Zaina Rizeena (2/1, Beverley, 29 August) helped the Middleton cause, while Goodwood striker Big Orange (6/1, 30 July) received the T2O stamp of approval.
