20/1 Chivers guides Daily Bargain to April glory

Steve Jones’ Daily Bargain, the reigning Besttipping champion, gave a stern warning that he will not relinquish his position without a struggle when producing a table-topping April yield of 34.5 points. Second, with a 6.5-point profit was James Boyle, while another Jones-managed service, Probets, claimed third position with a 5.5-point yield. There were also April profits for Personal Info and Personal Info-Saturday Only, with the latter named service now boasting a record of ten profitable months on the run.

As in March, when Jones finished the month in glorious style with a 12/1 winner, April ended with a stunning success in the shape of 20/1 advice Chivers at Salisbury (30 April). Even before this staggering strike, however, Daily Bargain had the April title in the bag, thanks to four winners: 9/1 Dakota Grey (Carlisle, 8 April), 7/1 L’Ami Serge (Aintree, 12 April), 11/2 Politologue (Aintree, 13 April) and 8/1 Rita’s Man (Beverley, 26 April).

April’s yield helped Daily Bargain climb from fourth to second position in the 2018 Besttipping Challenge, just half a point behind stable companion Probets, who made it four profitable months out of four in 2018. This month’s gain of 6.5 points, follows profitable postings of 6.1 points, 23.9 points and 12 .0 points in the first three months of the year.

Probets remain in terrific shape: 13 of April’s nineteen selections either finished first or second, with the five successes including two 3/1 advices, one at 6s (Hunaina, Kempton, 7 April) and, best of all, Show On The Road, who triumphed at 13/2 at Exeter the next day. It all added up to a 6.5-point yield which helped Probets retain their lead in the overall Besttipping challenge, albeit by a slender margin. Probets have a 47.5-point 2018 profit, while Daily Bargain are on 47 points. Isiris Mark Your Card are third with 20.9 points.

James Boyle, who made a welcome return to action in February, enjoyed his best month since resuming with a 6.5-point haul, which earned second place in the April listing. The highlight was the Newbury Spring Cup victory of 7/1 advice, Taqdeer.

With six winning selections and a number of good each-way returns, April was another winning month for Personal Info. Mildenberger (7/2, Newmarket, 17 April) was the best priced of the six winners during a month that ended with 12 of the last 13 selections finishing in the frame.

Personal Info’s Saturday-Only service also enjoyed a profitable April; and, in so doing, claimed a tenth straight month of profit – a fantastic testament to the high levels of consistency this service offers. April’s return came from two winners including Defoe (5/4, Newbury, 21 April) and profits from two placed each-way selections (8/1 and 6/1).

In 2015, First Favourite completed an unprecedented clean sweep – 12 winning months of profit. Although their ten consecutive months of profit straddles two calendar years, Personal Info-Saturday Only are within striking distance of emulating this outstanding feat and we will follow progress with interest in the forthcoming weeks.

And on the subject of First Favourite, April was not a month to tempt this fastidious service. With the weather still making a mockery of the formbook there were no selections, but subscribers continue to benefit from a trends-based analysis of the major meetings. Although not currently in the Besttipping stable, First Favourite’s trends show a healthy profit since being introduced last year.

So, we are already a third of the way through 2018, and now thoughts turn to the Flat. Newmarket’s Guineas Festival is quickly followed by the May festivals at Chester and York, which traditionally help to unravel the Derby and Oaks conundrums. Much, then, to look forward to, kind weather or not.
