2016-09-30

In the last two years, September has seen table-topping returns by Isiris’ Mark Your Card, and this year proved to be no different, as this voracious service claimed another monthly honour. The final tally was a 77.5 points profit, the best monthly return since March, when Mark Your Card accrued 98.3 points.  Those2oppose maintained their fine form with second place (16.9 points) with Steve Jones’ Probets and James Boyle claiming third and fourth places. There were also September profits for Isiris, Personal Info and Personal Info Saturday-only.

Mark Your Card’s September treasure trove was packed with jewels, with 16/1 advice Bronze Beau (21 September, Redcar) standing out. There were four winning 14/1 advices, Soie D’Leau (3 September, Haydock), Barney Roy (24 September, Haydock) and a boozy pairing, Tawny Port (16 September, Ayr) and Harpers Ruby (17 September, Wolverhampton). A further three winners came in at odds between 10s and 11s while there were 13 winners in the 7/1 to 9/1 price bracket.

Mark Your Card’s fifth monthly crown of 2016 means that they have extended the lead in the overall 2016 table to more than 114 points over second placed Middleton, who experienced a quiet month.

Those2oppose move into third place in the 2016 table, thanks to another strong showing. September’s second position follows a similar placing in July and three third places in the preceding three months.

Spain Burg, a winning 16/1 advice at Newmarket on 23 September, helped the Those2oppose cause with further contributions from 9/2 advice Celestial Spheres (21 September, Goodwood) and 7/2 Bayston Hill (12 September, Brighton).

Steve Jones’ Probets service provides one selection per day, and September’s record reads: 27 bets, 10 wins (at odds up to and including 7/1), five seconds and five thirds. This 37% strike-rate translates into a 14-point monthly yield and a 52% return on investment.

Like Those2oppose, James Boyle found a winning 16/1 advice, the Kevin Ryan-trained Brando, hero of the £124,000 Ayr Gold Cup. This win helped Boyle, winner of the July Besttipping Challenge, to an 11 point September yield, and fourth place in the monthly listing.

While Isiris’ Mark Your Card service has been generating all the headlines, their Mainline service has been quietly mopping up the winners. September’s 7.5-point profit was a third straight month of profit. It included five winning bets (11/10 up to 11/4) as well as a 33/1 each-way place.

Personal Info posted a 3.3-point yield, with five winners and a further three placed each-way selections generating returns from just 15 selections. The winners included a 5/1 advice, Mubtasim, successful in a valuable juvenile sales races at Doncaster (8 September).

As for Personal Info Saturday-only, September saw a 2.5-point gain. This was the sixth monthly profit of the year, a tally bettered only by Mark Your Card and Middleton Racing Services.  Two of the Saturday-only service’s four selections were successful (11/8 and 10/11) and a third finished second at 7/1, returning a healthy profit.

So, we move into October. This is always an exciting month, with the Flat season drawing to a thrilling close, thanks to Ascot’s Champion’s Day. The jumping game starts to really warm up this month, starting with this weekend’s classy two-day Chepstow meeting, which promises the return of some old favourites as well as exciting prospects for the winter months.
