SEVEN OUT OF SEVEN FOR AMAZING PROBETS

2022-07-31

Probets’ extraordinary year continued in July with a seventh successive monthly title. The final figure for the month was a 14.38-point profit - the best monthly return since Daily Bargain’s August 2021 score of 22 points.

July’s margin of success was more than 13 points, yet Probets were pushed for much of the month by Personal Info. The pair were neck and neck until a late salvo of winners pushed Probets into a clear lead as Personal Info suffered an agonising series of near-misses.

In the end, it was the second Personal Info service, Saturday-Only, which claimed second place with a yield of 0.8 points (the sixth profitable month out of seven in 2022). Personal Info ended with a 0.2-point profit, but Daily Bargain continued to suffer, recording a loss of 17.5 points.

Probets’ July strike-rate was almost 39% and the month’s longest losing sequence was just five. As well as the dozen winners, a further seven selections made the frame.

Best priced of the twelve winners was Iconic Knight (11/2), successful at Chepstow on 22 July. 4/1 Current Option, winner of Galway’s Ahanoora Handicap for the third time, brought the month to a happy close (31 July), while other contributors to the month’s pile included a pair of 7/2 shots, Forza Orta (York, 8 July) and Lilikoi (Haydock, 15 July).

Six of Personal Info Saturday-Only’s seven bets last month secured a return with Nathanael Greene (8/1, Haydock, 2 July), Without A Fight (evens, York, 9 July) and Magical Lagoon (5/4, Irish Oaks, Curragh, 16 July) all winning and Kodade (5/1, Ripon, 16 July), Shahbaz (11/4, Newcastle, 23 July) and Antiphon (7/4, Newmarket, 23 July) earning each-way money. In Nathanael Greene’s race, the second (Giavellotto, 12/1) and third (Valsad, 9/1) were also on the Saturday-Only notepad, while Irish Oaks second, Toy (13/2), was also pinpointed.

Since February 2021, Personal Info’s Mainline service has missed out on a profitable monthly return on just four occasions. That record was maintained last month, albeit by the slender margin of two tenths of a point. That was a frustrating outcome to a month of splendid tipping. As well as the three winners shared with Saturday-Only, Mainline also scored with The Platinum Queen (3/1, York, 8 July), Tarjeeh (11/2, Newbury, 15 July) and Wan’Em (6/1, Catterick, 20 July).

But then the agony: of the month’s last five selections, four were beaten into second (Shahbaz and Antiphon by margins of a neck), and the other came in third.

A profit, any profit, would be welcomed by Daily Bargain now. The reigning champion continued to struggle, finding only two winners: Tenerbrism (11/2, Deauville, 10 July) and Get Ahead (6/1, Goodwood, 28 July). There were a number of near-misses, with Glorious Goodwood selections The Attorney (second at 7/1, 27 July) and Super Superjack (second at 10/1, 29 July) both coming close.

The action continues thick and fast with August’s highlight being the York Ebor Meeting. Last year, as mentioned earlier, Daily Bargain flourished during the eighth month of the year, while Probets, Personal Info Mainline and Personal Info Saturday-Only all banked decent profits.
