Isiris hit top spot after impressive run

2013-05-25

It was all change at the top of the 2013 Besttipping challenge with Isiris storming into a clear lead after a phase of astonishing success. During the course of the last four weeks, Isiris has collected 82.3 points and now stand more than ten points clear of nearest challenger, Steve Jones Daily Bargain (71.2 points).

Isiris’s profit was the highest monthly haul since Bookies Enemy’s 136.3 point gain back in October 2010.

During the four week period under review, Isiris proofed 20 bets. Of these, eight were winners, five finished second, one was third and one fourth. A strike-rate of 40% was achieved despite the average price of selections being more than 5/1.

As regular punters will know, jumping form is notoriously erratic at this time of year as many of the top stables wind down for the summer. Yet Isiris had little trouble in cutting the wheat from the chaff. Foot The Bill, a 12/1 advice at Market Rasen on 10 May, Life And Soul (3/1, Wetherby, 28 April), Bold Chief (3/1, Ludlow, 28 April) and Lady Myfanwy (11/8, Ludlow, 28 April) all received the Isiris stamp of approval. And they all won.

Winners on the Flat included Maputo (11/4, Hamilton Park, 5 May), Argent Knight (3/1, Nottingham, 10 May) and Smoothtalkingrascal (4/1, York, 16 May).

Those2oppose continue to impress, posting their fourth profitable period out of five since joining the challenge earlier this year. Like Isiris, Those2oppose seek value; their selections average out at about 5/1. Nevertheless, there has been a regular stream of winners this year with the latest clutch including Lily’s Angel (4/1, Nottingham, 11 May), Dundonnell (5/2, Newmarket 18 May), Farhh (5/1, Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, 18 May) and Saucy Minx (4/1, Goodwood, 25 May). The result of this fine work was a 33% strike rate and a profit of 18.6 points.

Steve Jones, whose consistent Daily Bargain service has been there or thereabouts all year, has recently added a second service – Probets – which has already made an impact. This service is aimed at clients seeking shorter priced bets with a regular flow of winners. Like Jones’s Daily Bargain, Probets offers one win selection per day with prices averaging out at around 3/1. During the past four weeks, 8 out of 28 selections have prevailed (32% strike rate) at odds ranging from 11/10 to 6/1. Jones sends out tips for Probets and Daily Bargain the evening before racing, ensuring that value-hungry clients can snap up the early prices.

Highlights from the other tipsters in the Besttipping challenge this time around included Yeeoow a successful 12/1 punt at Ascot on 10 May for Steve Jones (Daily Bargain). PJA Flat chipped in with two 12/1 winning advices, Tawseef (Chepstow, 14 May) and Its a Mans World (Thirsk, 18 May), while PJA’s National Hunt service identified Thoresby, an 11/1 victor at Towcester on 21 May.

The Derby will soon be upon us, followed quickly by Royal Ascot. How time flies; not that long ago, it seems, we were counting down the days until Cheltenham!
