Highest yield for two years boosts Daily Bargain

2021-05-31

Thanks to a last week winner-frenzy, Daily Bargain were comfortable winners of the May Besttipping crown. Steve Jones’ value-based service notched a 66-point profit, the biggest monthly total since Early Price Profits posted a 106.65-point yield back in April 2019.

This was the third time this year that Daily Bargain had finished ahead of the pack. It also means that the pursuit of a third successive Besttipping title is already looking, well, if not a forgone conclusion, then a more than strong possibility.

Personal Info and Mark Your Card also registered May profits, while Personal Info’s Saturday-Only service missed out by a smidgeon.

In total, Daily Bargain called correctly on nine occasions during the month just passed, recording a strike-rate of more than 29% with prices averaging almost 11/1.

Strawberry Jack (5/1, Bath, 3 May) set the ball in motion. The following week saw three winning advices: HMS President (6/1, Windsor, 10 May), Tommy G (8/1, Ayr, 11 May) and Surrey Pride (12/1, Newmarket 14 May). Molls Memory maintained the momentum with a 15/2 success at Haydock (22 May. Then to Ireland for the next day’s winner, Helvic Dream, another 12/1 advice (the Curragh).

Illusionist scored at Hamilton on 26 May at 11/2, but the best was yet to come as a brace of 16/1 advices almost doubled the month’s takings. First it was Dashing Roger, winner of the Whitsun Cup at Sandown (27 May). Then, two days later, it was the turn of Byron’s Choice at Beverley. Both had been subject to prolonged market support, which saw the big eve-of-races quotes evaporate. But Daily Bargain’s strength is that selections are sent to subscribers the afternoon prior to the race, allowing time to get on before the odds wither away.

Seven winning selections and two placed each-way advices secured a fourth successive month of profit for Personal Info. A 3.9-point yield sees the balance for 2021 move to 12.5-points. May’s winners were headed by 7/4 Sienna Bonnie, successful at Bath on 3 May, Yauthym (15/8, Worcester, 12 May) and 11/8 Persia, a 29 May Punchestown scorer.

Mark Your Card followed April’s 7.2-point yield with another positive effort, this time to the tune of 2 points. We Still Believe (Hamilton, 26 May) and Justforjames (Cartmel, 29 May) were both successful at rewarding odds of 14/1, while a host of placed each-way choices yielded profitable returns. With 21.3 points, Mark Your Card are the closest challengers to Daily Bargain (107-points) in the race to be crowned 2021 Besttipping champion.
