Daily Bargain's remarkable fightback continues

2022-11-30

We’ve all seen it before: a stable sends out two runners in a race – one a multiple winner, the other a decent performer but not yet a victor. And the less fancied runner immediately surges into a clear lead. As the race progresses, the lead just gets bigger and bigger until you think there’s no way back for the champion. But, then…

The 2022 Besttipping Challenge is looking increasingly like this type of contest. Steve Jones’ Probets dominated the early exchanges and, with just five months to go enjoyed a 110-point advantage over stable companion Daily Bargain, seeking to win the Challenge for the fourth time in succession and the sixth time in all.

Then, the favourite woke up to what was at stake. A table-topping effort in August was followed by similar outcomes in September, October and now November, which ended with a 10-point yield. Meanwhile the labouring Probets posted a 12.1point loss, which reduced the overall lead to less than a point.

It might be construed that this is a two horse-race, but Personal Info’s Mainline and Saturday-Only service each posted profits of 0.6 points. Both have been models of consistency is 2022; Saturday-Only have returned profits in ten months out of eleven, while Mainline have just three losing months so far in ’22.

Interestingly, Daily Bargain traded at a loss the much of November. At the close of play on 24 November, the deficit was nine points.  Then followed one of Daily Bargain’s trademark finales: 16/1 Abuffalosoldier obliged at 16/1 on the opening day of Newbury’s Coral Gold Cup meeting (25 November). This secured the month’s profit, but the lily was well and truly gilded with the final day success of 7/1 Jungle Jack (Haydock, 30 November).

Anyone following Daily Bargain with each way bets would have also profited from the second placed 25/1 advice Aced It at Kempton Park (18 November) along with a pair of 10/1 advices that also finished second.

Probets found no kind of rhythm, finding just three winners during the course of the month. That was only one shy of Daily Bargain’s figure, but with cramped prices, November produced a heavy 12.1-point loss. On a positive note, the month did end with a sequence of two wins and five places from ten.

Personal Info was again in cautious mood, advising just four bets over the course of November. But this circumspection looked to pay off, as Mainline and Saturday-Only topped the November table until Daily Bargain’s late rally.

Tiriac got the month of to a perfect start for PI, winning at Doncaster at 11/2 (5 November). The profit increased with the following week’s bet. Al Dasim (4/9) got the better of each-way selection Sergeant Pip (10/1) (Wolverhampton, 12 November). The last two bets resulted in small losses, but the month’s profit was secured.

So, as we enter December, the destiny of the Challenge remains unclear. Yes, Daily Bargain has the momentum, but if Probets rediscover the pre-August form, then the title will be theirs. As ever, you can keep in touch with the action on the twitter link from the Besttipping web-page.
