DAILY BARGAIN SECURE FIFTH BESTTIPPING CROWN

2021-12-31

As was widely expected, Daily Bargain were crowded Besttipping champions for 2021, posting a 98.5-point profit for the 12 months up to and including 31 December. It means that Steve Jones’ value-based service has now won the last three titles and has established a new record of five titles in all. Previously, Daily Bargain had shared that honour with Mark Your Card, who won four titles out of five between 2014 and 2018.

Whilst Daily Bargain just missed out in a fifth successive 100-point profit, the scope of victory – more than 76 points – comfortably bettered last year’s winning margin of 63 points.

Although Daily Bargain dominated this year’s race, Personal Info, Personal Info Saturday-Only and Probets all finished the year with decent profits, as did Mark Your Card, who left the challenge during the spring.

Much of Daily Bargain’s hard work was done in the first five months of the year.  With profits of 24.1 points in February, 21 points in April and 66 points in May, Daily Bargain surged into a commanding lead at the end of May when the yield was a handsome 107 points. Further profitable months followed in July and August, but the final four months were less emphatic; the year ending with rare back-back losing months. However, the only downside of this was that the final profit for the year failed to hit three figures; for much of the year, Daily Bargain’s personal best yearly tally – 153.5 points (2017) appeared under threat.

2021 saw a tenth year of profit from 14 for Personal Info, who finished with an 18.1-point annual yield. Profits were secured in all but two months in 2021 an achievement that almost equalled the same service’s 2018 record of eleven winning months out of twelve.

In fact, it was Personal Info who topped December’s table. It was a testing month all-round, but Personal Info came out of it with a 0.93-point return – the third time PI had taken monthly honours during the year. December’s winners were Equal Share (9/5, Lingfield, 1 December), Arctician (3/1, Wolverhampton, 6 December), Antiphon (7/4, Chelmsford City, 9 December), Sound Angela (10/11, Lingfield, 15 December), Henri The Second (9/2, Ascot, 17 December) and Kaboo (evens, Newcastle, 21 December).  Seven of the Personal Info’s ten race bets during the month yielded returns.

Probets and Personal Info Saturday-Only both came agonisingly close to joining Personal Info in the black last month. The former missing out by just a tenth of a point and the latter by less than a single point.

Personal Info Saturday-Only, who topped the table in November, recorded an 8.5-point yield in 2021, with seven monthly profits. The annual profit was the seventh in eight years, further testament to the remarkable consistency of the Personal Info stable

Seven of Probets 25 selections in December hit the target with 4/1 Pemberley (Warwick, 9 December) heading the list of winners. Probets ended 2021 with an 8.4-point yield. Twice Probets topped the monthly table, and on seven occasions monthly profits were registered.

Overall, the standard of tipping remained extremely high from all the Besttipping services, in what was another testing year. While the programme remained mostly intact, the uncertainty of the times contributed to many unlikely successes with the Arc de Triomphe and the Irish Grand National springing to mind. And when results followed a more predictable route, the challenge of finding value remained paramount. Whatever 2022 might bring, you can be assured that Besttipping will be a reliable ally.
