Amazing PJA Flat out in pursuit of glory

2012-09-29

With an amazing profit of 77.7 points, PJA Flat topped the September table in emphatic style. They finished more than 46 points clear of stablemate PJA National Hunt, with Insideoutracing claiming third spot with a useful 24.8 point yield.

PJA Flat’s profit – the best monthly tally since Bookies Enemy’s 136.3 point haul in October 2010 – sees them climb from fifth place to third in the 2012 table, just five points behind PJA National Hunt, and less than 34 points behind table-toppers, CD Systems.

The feast of PJA Flat winners was headed by Clockmaker, a successful 16/1 wager at Chester on 14 September. Escape To Glory (14/1, Haydock, 7 September); Bollin Felix (12/1, Newcastle, 27 August); I Confess (11/1, Beverley, 25 September); Amadeus Wolfe Tone (10/1, Doncaster, 12 September); Presto Volante (10/1, Chepstow, 13 September); Frozen Over (10/1, Chester, 15 September); and Fieldgunner Kirkup (9/1, Newcastle, 27 August) all ensured this would prove to be bumper month. And it was brought to a close in spectacular fashion when Bronze Angel (advised at 12/1) landed a massive gamble in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket.

Despite the unfathomable and generally unpopular hiatus in the jumping season, PJA National Hunt continued to prosper, posting their fifth successive monthly profit. Scriptwriter, a 10/1 winning advice at Sedgefield on 6 September, and 8/1 Smalib Monterg, successful at Stratford two days later, headed another long list of winning tips.

Topamichi was a winning 20/1 advice for Insideoutracing. The Mark Tompkins-trained juvenile, who was backed down to 4/1, was a comfortable winner of a Carlisle maiden on 12 September. The previous day, the same tipster had been on the mark with 11/1 St Maxime at Galway.

Isiris posted their third successive profit, while Richard Dunwoody also finished in the black. Of Dunwoody’s seventeen selections, six won and a further five finished second or third.

Steve Jones (CD Systems) maintained his position at the top of the 2012 table, a lead he has held since April. This month’s return was a steady 8.5 point profit, thanks to five winners in the 9/2 to 8/1 price range.

Bookies Enemy started the month in second spot in the 2012 table, but despite registering a small profit, they have dropped to fourth place, such was the effect of the strong showing by the PJA services.

Personal Info also posted a profit, while Right Price narrowly missed out this time around.

So, with just three months to go, the 2012 Besttipping challenge is turning into a thriller. The leader-board reads as follows:

CD Systems                148.4 pts

PJA National Hunt     120.3 pts

PJA Flat                      115.3 pts

Bookies Enemy           101.0 pts

Isiris                              75.4 pts

It’s probably a four-horse race, but who knows? As PJA Flat demonstrated so dramatically this month, a strong run can see a tipster surge up the table, even when their rivals are also in winning form.
