Newcomer Sandbets breaks Mark Your Card's run of success

2018-09-30

Sandbets, one of three new services to recently join Besttipping, made an instant impact by posting a 54.02-point September profit and denying Mark Your Card a fourth consecutive month of table-topping glory. The result was tantalizingly close with just half a point separating the two.

Seventy-eight win-only September bets yielded 17 winners (22% strike-rate) for Sandbets including 10/1 Fragrant Belle (Lingfield, 1 September), 9/1 Dubai Blue (Lingfield, 15 September) and 8/1 Kasbaan (Lingfield, 25 September). In total, 59% of all September’s tips finished in the first three.

Mark Your Card’s golden summer continued despite the lengthening shadows in September. A 53.50-point profit followed on from yields of 38.2 points in June, 15.6 points in July and 72.6 points in August. It means that, with three months of the year to run, the profit is above 200-points. That’s something that looked unlikely at the end of May when the return for the first five months of the year stood at just 23.2 points.

September’s story was one of quiet progress culminating in a hectic and lucrative eight-day period with winners including Baron Bolt, a 33/1 shot who dead-heated in a dramatic Ayr Gold Cup (22 September). On the same afternoon, again at Ayr, 14/1 Snazzy Jazzy scored. He was followed by Omega Springs, another winning 14/1 advice (Uttoxeter, 23 September), 20/1 Twin Appeal (Beverley, 25 September), 12/1 Highgarden (Newmarket, 28 September), 11/1 Machree (Ripon) and Muntadab (Newmarket, both 29 September).

With three winners from seven selections, including 2/1 Rene Mathis (Wolverhampton, 8 September), Personal Info’s Saturday-Only service notched up another profitable month – the 36th out of 50 since joining Besttipping mid-way through 2014. That represents a 72% strike-rate, a splendid long-term record.

As well as the Saturday-Only operation, Personal Info’s mainline service also recorded a September profit, making it eight profitable returns out of nine so far in 2018. As in recent months, Personal Info’s dutching bets produced superb results; in five instances out of six in September the winning horse was selected. These included 5/1 Mearing, successful at Chester on 14 September, and Canvassed (4/1), who came home first at Newcastle a week earlier.

First Favourite also enjoyed a profitable (and unbeaten) September as both selections triumphed. Winners at 1/2 and 4/7 may not be to everyone’s liking, but given First Favourites’ meticulous approach, the two horses in question were regarded as very likely winners whose true odds were much shorter than those offered by the layers.

Had either of two narrowly beaten advices found a little extra, we would be congratulating Steve Jones’ on another profitable return. As it was, Jones fell a fraction short of profit number seven for the year. Windforpower (12/1) was beaten a neck at Newcastle on 3 September while 11/1 Robin Weathers missed out by a length and a half (Lingfield, 25 September). The three advices that got the script right were 12/1 Chebsey Beau (Musselburgh, 7 October), 7/1 Corrosive (Chelmsford City, 10 September) and 5/1 Dark Side Dream (Kempton, 4 September). As Jones’ takes a well-earned nine-day break, the service’s 2018 profit stands at an impressive 88.50-points. An eighth year of profit from 11 beckons for this long-established service.

Jones’ second service, Probets, is also well ahead for the year - 36.50 up - and well on course to beat the 46.2-point haul earned back in 2014. September’s seven winners (24% strike-rate) included two 7/2 strikes, Great Scot (Haydock, 8 September) and Recoletos (Leopardstown, 9 September).

Sprint Specialiser and Early Price Profits also recently joined the fray, and if previous results are anything to go by, they, like Sandbets, will add a new dimension to Besttipping.
