It's a record-breaking month for Probets!

2022-05-31

By topping May’s table, Probets established a new Besttipping record for the most successive monthly top spots. Prior to winning this fifth straight monthly crown, Probets shared the record with PJA Flat and Mark Your Card, who both ran up sequences of four winning months in succession in 2011 and 2015 respectively.

And, as a result of a 4.3-point yield, Probets moved further ahead of the field. Leading by 41 points at the start of the month, the margin is now 45.2 points.

Personal Info’s Saturday-Only service remained in close attendance throughout the month and, but for a late slip-up, may well have snatched the top placing themselves. Nevertheless, a fourth profitable month out of five was another highly satisfactory outcome.

Personal Info’s Mainline service narrowly missed out of a profit, but Daily Bargain continue to struggle, and now trail Probets by more than 68 points: still not dead and buried, but in need of a serious transfusion of good fortune.

Probets’ month began slowly with just two wins from 11, but Silver Samurai’s victory under William Buick at Newbury on 13 May turned things around; twelve of the next 17 bets finished in the first three, with five taking first place. This quintet included Top Anticipation (7/2, Leicester, 16 May) and Ziggy (9/2, Haydock Park, 20 May).

So, a tricky month ended with a 4.3-point yield and a 28% strike-rate. This followed yields of 12 points, 12.4 points, 14.1 points and 5.2 points. What a transformation: 2021’s wooden spoonist, now miles ahead of the opposition.

The final May table shows Probets 3.7 points ahead of Personal Info Saturday-Only. But turn the clocks back to the morning of 27 May, and the difference between the two rivals was a mere half- point. An 11/4 winner for Probets that day eased tensions, but Probets’ record was only secured when the unthinkable happened: Saturday-Only’s bet on 28 May was a loser – only the second since January.

Despite the final Saturday reversal, Probets continue to prosper. May’s haul included Aldhaja, a 10/1 winner at Haydock Park (7 May), 9/4 Tiber Flow (successful at Newbury on 14 May) and Fully Wet, an 8/1 winner at Goodwood the following Saturday. The final return was a small 0.6-point profit. (But if the month’s bets are settled to level stakes, the profit leaps to more than 13 points.)

Personal Info’s Mainline service are also showing a decent profit to level stakes (4.7 points), but the return to recorded stakes is a modest loss of 2.4 points, explained entirely by a poor last week that saw a useful profit washed away by three losing bets. Up to that point, the month’s six bets had yielded four winners: Aldhaja (10/1, Haydock Park, 7 May), Emily Upjohn (8/13, York, 11 May), Tiber Flow (9/4, Newbury, 14 May) and Fully Wet (8/1, Goodwood, 21 May).

Daily Bargain’s frustrating year continues. Many selections got close but only two found their way into the winner’s enclosure: Pride Of America (9/1, Chester, 5 May) and Lucander (5/1, Windsor, 30 May). Ten finished second (all at decent prices); it just needed a couple of those to find a little extra to turn a losing month into one of profit.

The Derby and Royal Ascot are the highlights of the forthcoming month. Can Probets maintain the outstanding form shown so far this year, or will one of the two Personal Info services break the spell? Maybe Daily Bargain will rediscover the winning thread. Many questions will be answered over the next four weeks.
